Royston Green Hats
My first dyed hat was a fur felt with a fuzzy nap. It had a diamond shaped crown that was easy to reshape with more defined lines, but the turned up brim was not my style. I reshaped it and shaved it. Next.. a bit of bleach (I was a hair colorist in my younger days) followed by a custom mixed dye that I now call Royston Green. I then burned it, etched it and sewed on a vintage kilim strip that I cut from a pillow cover. That was topped by some dyed string, twine, bandana strips and a couple of wild turkey feathers. The final touch, one of my old turquoise and silver post earrings was attached to the front. This was and still is one of my all time favorite hats and for now, I'm keeping it in my own collection...but the color has been used on quite a few hats since then.
